Hong Kong Weather


Hong Kong is located on the southern coast of China, a city-state with modern architecture known for its cityscape and beautiful harbour on the South China Sea. Hong Kong weather enjoys a humid subtropical climate, and the most mild and pleasant seasons in which to visit the city are spring and autumn.

Seasons and Temperature Norms

Spring – The months of springtime last from March to May. March and April are calm and mild, but May starts the rainy season. Temperature highs are rising and average between 21 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Summer – In the months of June through September, summer is a time of humidity and rain. Temperatures averagely soar to between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius.

Autumn – The rains diminish and the weather becomes pleasant, dry, and sunny. October, November, and the first part of December are the months of autumn. Temperature highs ease from the summertime highs and range between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius.

Winter – Wintertime comes at the end of December and lasts until the end of February. Temperatures remain mild and the lows are only from 14 to 15 degrees Celsius.

The Rainy Season

Summer is the time when most of the thunderstorms pass through and precipitation falls. Typhoons occur during the summer months as well, and they bring in chances of mud slides and flooding in the inner city. Hong Kong receives at least 2,000 mm of rainfall per year. August has the most precipitation, accumulating to 445 mm.
